How often Do google update Image database and rankings

There have always been a confusion among webmasters about google's strategy of indexing images. Many webmasters think that google haven't update its database of images since years.

But is that true? I will not agree, it update its image database just the way it update its website database. And image SEO is such a thing which if properly implemented then can bring you huge traffic.

If you have any confusion then have a look at this blog Desktop wallpapers . I can see lots of traffic from image search. you can see that at the leftside feedjit widget. Its age is about 3 months.

So what do you think about Image SEO? Is it fruitful, would like to see honest views on this topic.
